Cheapest AI Video Generator: What Really Costs Least in 2026
A cheap AI video generator is easy to find; a cheap finished video is not. Credits lapse at the end of the month, a discarded take costs as much as a kept one, and a clip of a few seconds is not yet a scene. We sorted nine options by the way you pay and noted where each one stops being cheap.
October 2026

The short answer
The cheapest AI video generator in October 2026 depends on how you pay. Remixing Shorts with Google's Gemini Omni in YouTube costs nothing; open models such as Wan 2.2 and LTX-2.5 run on your own GPU with no fee per clip; fal.ai and Pika's credit packs charge only when you generate, with no subscription. For a whole film, compare the cost per finished minute, with retries, voices and music included, not the cost of one clip.
Cheap AI video generators compared by how you pay
| Tool | Best for | How you pay | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Shorts Remix (Gemini Omni) | Free vertical remixes | Free, inside YouTube and the YouTube Create app | Remixes existing Shorts; watermark and link to the original |
| Wan 2.2 | Heavy local use | Open source (Apache 2.0), your own GPU | Needs a 24 GB graphics card and setup |
| LTX-2.5 | Local video with sound | Open weights, your own GPU or hosted API | Large download; licence terms above a revenue threshold |
| fal.ai | Occasional use, developers | Pay per use, billed per second, image or generation | An API, not an editor |
| Kling AI | Long single shots | Free Basic plan, subscriptions, credit packs | Free credits are promotional |
| Hailuo AI (MiniMax H3) | Trying a new model on bonus credits | Bonus credits, subscriptions, credit packs | Subscription credits do not roll over |
| Pika | Occasional creators | Credit packs without a subscription, or plans | No free monthly credits; commercial use from Creator plan |
| Dreamina (Seedance 2.5) | Editing a clip instead of redoing it | Trial credits, subscriptions | Trial credits vary by account and region |
| filmaris | Whole films with story and sound | Free first film, plans with credits, or your own fal.ai key | Not the cheapest for one clip; AI video needs a paid plan |
1YouTube Shorts Remix with Gemini Omni: free, inside YouTube
Google put its newest video model, Gemini Omni Flash, into YouTube at no cost in May 2026. You open an eligible Short, choose Remix and change it with your own prompt and pictures: a different decade, a new place, yourself next to the creator. The YouTube Create app offers the same tools. Nothing is billed and nothing needs installing. The trade-off is scope. This is a remix tool built around existing Shorts, and every remix carries a digital watermark, identifying metadata and a link back to the original video. The full Omni toolset, with scene extension and start and end frames, sits in Google Flow for paying Google AI subscribers.
Best for: free vertical remixes for YouTube Shorts
- No cost and nothing to install
- Google's newest video model
- Runs inside apps you may already use
- Remixes existing Shorts rather than starting your own film
- Watermark and link back to the original
2Wan 2.2: open-source video on your own GPU
Alibaba released Wan 2.2 with open weights under the Apache 2.0 licence in July 2025, and it is still the newest Wan you can download: Wan 2.5 up to Wan 3.0 run only through Alibaba's paid API. Running it yourself means no fee per clip, only hardware and electricity. The 5B model generates 720p video at 24 frames per second and fits a consumer graphics card with 24 GB of memory, such as an RTX 4090; the larger 14B models need data-centre cards. It works with ComfyUI or from the command line. Story, continuity, sound and the edit are yours to build around it.
Best for: technical users with a strong GPU who generate a lot
- No fee per clip
- Permissive Apache 2.0 licence
- Runs offline, files stay on your machine
- Needs a 24 GB graphics card and setup time
- Newer Wan versions are API-only
3LTX-2.5: open weights with sound built in
Lightricks published LTX-2.5 as open weights on 11 August 2026. Like LTX-2 before it, the model generates picture and synchronised audio in one pass, so a clip arrives with its own sound. You can download it from Hugging Face, run it in ComfyUI, or call Lightricks' hosted LTX API when your hardware is not enough. Two practical points: the model files are roughly 66 GiB, and the LTX-2.x Community License sets its own commercial terms, free for smaller organisations and negotiated above a revenue threshold. Read it before client work. If you prefer an interface to a command line, Lightricks' LTX Studio runs LTX-2.5 on its free tier for personal projects.
Best for: local generation with audio, for small studios
- Video and sound in one pass
- Open weights, local or hosted
- Free for smaller organisations
- Large download and a strong GPU
- Revenue threshold in the licence
4fal.ai: pay per use, nothing to cancel
fal.ai is a developer platform that hosts a large catalogue of generative models behind one API and bills by usage: per second of video, per image or per generation, depending on the model. Its price list includes Kling 3.0, MiniMax H3, Seedance 2.0, Grok Imagine Video 1.5 and PixVerse V6, and its catalogue also links Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0 and LTX 2.3. If you generate now and then, paying only for what you render beats credits that lapse unused. The catch: fal is an API with a test playground, not a film tool. You send one request per clip and handle story, continuity, sound and editing elsewhere. It is also the service behind filmaris' own-key mode.
Best for: occasional use and developers who want one bill for many models
- Pay only for what you render
- Many leading models behind one account
- Works with filmaris' own-key mode
- An API, not an editor
- Top models still cost more per second
5Kling AI: a free Basic plan, Kling 4.0 on credits
Kuaishou opened Kling 4.0 to users on 15 October 2026, with single generations of up to 30 seconds, up to 15 reference assets through Omni Reference and up to 10 keyframes. The Basic plan is free forever but comes with no fixed monthly credits; free and login credits appear during promotions and follow each event's expiry rules. Membership credits are valid for one month, while purchased credit packs last two years, which suits irregular use better than a subscription. Removing the watermark is a paid-plan feature. The developer API is billed separately from the consumer app, and app credits do not carry over to it.
Best for: long single shots with strong motion
- Up to 30 seconds in one generation
- Purchased credits stay valid for two years
- Reference and keyframe control
- Free credits are promotional, not guaranteed
- Watermark removal needs a paid plan
6Hailuo AI: MiniMax H3 on bonus credits
MiniMax launched its third-generation video model, H3, also called Hailuo 3.0, on 31 July 2026. It takes text, images, video and audio as input and generates video with native stereo sound. In the Hailuo AI app, new users start with bonus credits, which expire after their validity period. A subscription adds monthly credits that reset each month and do not roll over, plus watermark-free downloads and priority generation. Credit packs can be bought on their own, with their own expiry date. Free output is for personal use and should credit Hailuo; commercial use, such as monetised content, starts with the Starter plan.
Best for: trying a current model on bonus credits
- New model with native stereo sound
- Bonus credits for new users
- Credit packs without a subscription
- Subscription credits do not roll over
- Commercial use needs a paid plan
7Pika: credit packs without a subscription
Pika's Free plan has no monthly credit allowance, which sounds like a drawback until you see how it works: you buy top-up packs when you need them, with no subscription, and those credits stay valid for 365 days. Every plan, Free included, reaches every model on the platform: Pika 2.5 and Pikaframes, plus Seedance 2.5, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. For someone who makes a few clips a quarter, that is often cheaper than a monthly plan whose credits disappear. One limit to know: the commercial licence starts with the Creator plan, so packs bought on Free are for personal projects.
Best for: occasional creators who dislike unused subscriptions
- Pay-as-you-go packs, valid for a year
- Many current models on every plan
- No free monthly credits
- Commercial licence only from the Creator plan
8Dreamina: Seedance 2.5 with trial credits
ByteDance launched Seedance 2.5 on 31 July 2026, first on Dreamina, its platform for creating and editing images and video. The release centres on longer generations, stronger control through reference assets and targeted editing inside the same workspace, so you can fix part of a clip instead of paying to generate all of it again. Dreamina may give eligible users free trial credits without a credit card; the amount varies by account and region. Paid plans add more monthly credits, watermark-free downloads, faster queues and higher resolution. Seedance 2.5 is also offered on Runway, Luma and Pika, so you may already reach it through a plan you pay for.
Best for: editing a clip instead of generating it again
- Seedance 2.5 from its maker
- Targeted edits save repeat generations
- Trial credits without a card
- Trial credit amount varies by region
- Watermark-free downloads are paid
9filmaris: a whole film, with the cost shown before each run
filmaris is not the cheapest way to get one clip, and we would not pretend otherwise. It is built for a different bill: a whole film with story, recurring characters, voices, music and an edit. From one sentence, a screenplay or a book, it writes the script, draws reference sheets so faces stay the same, plans every shot and sends each one to a fitting model among more than fifty, including Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.5, Hailuo 2.3 and Wan 2.7. Every run shows its cost before it starts, and spending credits adds no markup on the AI provider's cost. Link your own fal.ai key and fal.ai bills that cost to you directly. Your first one-minute film is free: storyboard pictures with camera moves and voiced dialogue, not generated video.
Best for: a cheap AI movie maker for complete, low-budget films
- Script, characters, shots, voices, music and edit in one place
- Cost shown before every run, no markup when credits are spent
- A free one-minute storyboard film to test your story
- Not the cheapest for a single clip
- Real AI video shots and longer films need a paid plan
- Free plan exports 720p with a watermark
How we compared
We read each provider's own pricing, plan and help pages and its launch announcements between 16 and 22 October 2026, and kept a source for every statement. Prices are left out on purpose: they change often and differ by region, so this page compares how you pay (free use, local open models, pay per use, credit packs and subscriptions) and what makes each option expensive in practice, such as expiring credits, watermarks or licence limits. We ran no paid test generations for this article. filmaris is our own product; it is placed where it fits, for the job it is built for.
Price a whole film before you make it
Affordable video production starts with knowing the cost. Describe your story in one sentence, see what every step costs before it runs, and watch your first one-minute storyboard film without paying.
Make your first film freeQuestions about cheap AI video
How much does it cost to make an AI movie?
It depends on length, the number of shots, the model chosen for each shot and how many takes you throw away. Video is billed per second or per clip, so a film made of many short shots adds up shot by shot, and voices, music and retries come on top. Work out the AI film production cost per finished minute, not per clip. filmaris shows the cost of every run before it starts, so you watch the total build up.
Is there a completely free AI video generator?
Remixing with Gemini Omni in YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app costs nothing, but it works on existing Shorts. Open models such as Wan 2.2 and LTX-2.5 are free to run if you own a strong graphics card. Most hosted services give trial or promotional credits. filmaris gives one free one-minute film per confirmed e-mail, made from storyboard pictures with camera moves and voiced dialogue.
Is pay per use cheaper than a subscription?
For occasional use, usually yes. Subscription credits on Kling, Hailuo and most Runway plans reset or expire every month, so whatever you do not use is lost. Pay-per-use APIs such as fal.ai, or Pika's packs that stay valid for 365 days, only charge for what you render. If you generate every day, a subscription's bundled credits can work out better, so compare against your real volume.
What is the cheapest way to make a low-budget film with AI?
Plan before you generate. In low budget film production with AI, most money is lost on shots generated again because a face, a costume or a set changed between takes. Write the script, fix the look of characters and places on reference images, approve a storyboard, and only then render video. Test the story on still pictures first; filmaris' free one-minute storyboard film is exactly that test.
Why don't credits translate into seconds of video?
Each model costs a different number of credits per second, and resolution, length and sound change the rate. A take you discard costs the same as one you keep. Before you buy, check how many seconds of your preferred model a plan really covers, and when its credits expire.
